India to Host WAVES Summit in February 2025, PM Modi Announces
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that India will host the Global Audio-Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES) from February 5 to 9, 2025, in New Delhi. The event would provide a global platform for creators to showcase their talent and collaborate on world-class content development.
A Platform for Global Creators
PM Modi, in his monthly Mann Ki Baat address, stated that WAVES is the Davos World Economic Forum of its kind, where India's potential to be a global content creation hub will be reflected. Here, professionals from cinema, animation, gaming, TV, and entertainment technologies will look for opportunities and innovations to be discussed.
Boost to India's Creative Economy
Referring to the swelling creator economy, Modi mentioned that the WAVES summit would emphasize India's growth in regional and mainstream cinema, animation, and gaming. He urged both established and emerging creators to participate as they form a critical segment of India's journey towards a $5 trillion economy.
Glimpses of Indian Cinema Legends
In his address, Modi paid homage on the 100th birth anniversary to the legends Raj Kapoor and Mohammed Rafi, who gave many a golden moment to the Indian cinema. He also remembered the cinema icon of Telugu by the name of Akkineni Nageswara Rao and the filmmaker Tapan Sinha for his cinematic contribution to Indian traditions.
