India records highest single-day deaths after Bihar revises tally

India on Thursday reported record 6,148 COVID-19 deaths. This sudden jump from was reported a day before, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

This remains the highest number of COVID-19 fatalities reported in 24 hours in any country.

Although India’s spike in daily infections has, now been showing a downward trend. The caseload remains below one lakh for the third consecutive day on June 10.

The sudden jump in daily COVID-19 deaths comes after the revision of death toll in Bihar after an audit of deaths ordered by the High Court.

As per Bihar government’s daily health bulletin for June 9, the state had reported 9,375 COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours. And a day before, Bihar had recorded 5,424 deaths in 24 hours due to Coronavirus.

These deaths were reported across 38 districts of Bihar. The fatalities are owing to inadequate facilities at private hospitals, homes, and post-recovery complications that was not recorded earlier.
