Indian Army MShield 2.0: New Software to Prevent Honey Trap Cases

Indian Army MShield 2.0: To strengthen cybersecurity and prevent honey trap incidents, the Indian Army has launched MShield 2.0, a security software designed to detect and block unauthorized apps that may compromise sensitive information.

How Indian Army MShield 2.0 Works

The MShield 2.0 app is exclusively for Indian Army personnel. Once installed, it helps officers monitor if a soldier has downloaded restricted applications or received suspicious calls, including Potentially Insecure Outgoing (PIO) calls, often linked to honey trap cases.

Strengthening Army Cybersecurity

Since its rollout, MShield 2.0 has successfully prevented honey trap cases. Currently, the Romeo Force is using the app, with plans to implement it across the entire Indian Army for stronger data protection and surveillance.

Past Honey Trap Cases in India

Honey trapping remains a significant national security concern. In recent years, several defense and government personnel have been targeted:

May 2023: A DRDO scientist was arrested by Maharashtra’s ATS for allegedly leaking sensitive information.
November 2022: A Ministry of External Affairs driver was caught in a honey trap and arrested for sharing classified details.
With MShield 2.0, the Indian Army aims to eliminate security threats and safeguard its personnel from espionage tactics.
