The nation’s top steelmaker, Tata Steel, will produce at least 22 of India’s fastest and most feature-rich Vande Bharat Express trains in the upcoming year. Tata Steel and the Indian Railway have a contract in this area.
In addition to aiming to launch the first sleeper version of Vande Bharat by the first quarter of 2024, the Ministry of Railways has set a production goal of 200 Vande Bharat trains over the next two years.
The Indian Railways and Tata Steel struck an agreement on many plans to expedite the production process keeping the project in mind.
From the first AC coach to the three-tier coaches, Tata Steel will now produce the seats for the Vande Bharat Express. The business, for which structures of panels, windows, and rails of the trains are being prepared, has also been awarded the contract for producing Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches for the train.
Now, the Indian Railways has awarded a tender of approximately Rs 145 crore to the international steel manufacturer for the production of the train parts under the programme. In a year, the business will have finished producing the parts.
The composites business of Tata Steel has begun working in this area after receiving the bulk order for the Vande Bharat Express seating system, which consists of 22 train sets with 16 coaches each.
Tata Steel Vice President Debashish Bhattacharya as saying, “The seats of this train are specially designed, which can rotate up to 180-degree and have aircraft-like passenger amenities which are a first in India”
