India’s First Tele-Robotic Surgery: Delhi Doctors Successfully Operate on Patient 2000 KM Away

India’s First Tele-Robotic Surgery: India has achieved a historic milestone in medical science. For the first time, doctors in Delhi successfully performed a tele-robotic surgery on a patient 2000 kilometers away in Bengaluru. The operation was conducted using an advanced robotic system and fiber optic technology, marking a major leap in healthcare innovation.

What is Tele-Robotic Surgery?

Tele-robotic surgery allows doctors to perform operations remotely using robotic arms controlled through a specialized console. Surgeons wear 3D glasses and operate with precise hand movements, which the robotic system replicates on the patient. This technology ensures high accuracy and minimal invasion, reducing complications and recovery time.

Successful Operations Performed

In this pioneering procedure, two critical surgeries were conducted remotely:

Esophagectomy for esophagus (food pipe) cancer
Pelvic exenteration for rectal cancer (T4 CA rectum)
Doctors in Delhi controlled the robotic system while the patients were in a hospital in Bengaluru. The high-speed fiber optic network enabled smooth execution without any interruptions.

What Experts Say About This Innovation

Dr. SP Som Shekhar, a renowned robotic surgeon, led the operation. He emphasized that the robot does not replace doctors but enhances their skills by providing extra precision and control. "With robotic surgery, a surgeon gets the advantage of four hands, improving accuracy and efficiency," he said.

Government Recognition for Tele-Surgery

The Indian government has officially approved tele-surgery at a national level. Before this approval, several clinical trials were conducted, including a test between Gurugram and Delhi. The successful trials paved the way for its official implementation, revolutionizing remote healthcare access in India.

How Tele-Robotic Surgery Can Change Healthcare
Access to top doctors across the country
Better treatment for patients in remote areas
More precise and minimally invasive surgeries
Faster recovery with fewer complications

This landmark achievement in robotic surgery could transform India’s healthcare system, making world-class medical treatment accessible to all.
