Inter-University Grappling Championship 2025: Sunil Chaturvedi and Durgeshwar Appointed as Chief Referees

Inter-University Grappling Championship 2025: The Inter-University Grappling Championship, organized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), will take place at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule University, Rohilkhand, Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh) from February 17 to 22. Around 800 male and female athletes from 200 universities across the country will compete in different weight categories.

Kanpur’s Sunil Chaturvedi and Durgeshwar Appointed as Chief Referees

Sunil Chaturvedi and Durgeshwar Srivastava have been appointed as the chief referees for the tournament.
This marks the fifth time that Sunil Chaturvedi has been given this prestigious responsibility at an inter-university grappling competition.
The Indian Grappling Federation, recognized by UWW (United World Wrestling), will provide technical support for the event.

Grappling: A Modern Form of Ancient Indian Mall-Yudh

Grappling is a refined version of the ancient Indian wrestling sport, Mall-Yudh, which was mentioned in Mahabharata.
Since 2018, AIU has included grappling in inter-university competitions.
