Isha Foundation Responds to Tamil Nadu Police Status Report, Declares Itself a Safe Haven for Seekers

In response to the Tamil Nadu Police status report submitted to the Supreme Court, Isha Foundation has reiterated its stance as a safe place for spiritual seekers from around the world. The report, which addressed various concerns, including the welfare of female monks and missing persons, was welcomed by the Foundation as confirmation of its compliance with legal and safety standards.
 
Isha Response To The Tamil Nadu Police

In response to the Tamil Nadu Police status report submitted to the Supreme Court, Isha Foundation has reiterated its stance as a safe place for spiritual seekers from around the world. The report, which addressed various concerns, including the welfare of female monks and missing persons, was welcomed by the Foundation as confirmation of its compliance with legal and safety standards.

Female Monks Confirmed Safe

The Tamil Nadu Police report confirmed that two female monks residing in the Isha Ashram are living there of their own free will, with no restrictions placed on their movements. One of the monks recently participated in a 10 km marathon, underscoring their freedom and well-being.

 


POSH Compliance and Rectifications

The Foundation emphasized its commitment to providing a safe environment, stating that it complies with the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act. After the Social Welfare Department identified some areas of improvement in the Internal Complaints Committee, Isha Foundation promptly addressed the recommendations and submitted the necessary rectifications to the concerned authorities.

Missing Persons Update

On the matter of missing persons, the police clarified that five of the six individuals reported missing from the ashram have been found. Isha Foundation, which had proactively lodged a missing person complaint for the one individual still unaccounted for, remains hopeful for their safe return and is fully cooperating with efforts to locate them.

Alleged Molestation Case Under Investigation

Regarding an ongoing child molestation case, the Foundation confirmed that the accused doctor was an employee of Isha Outreach and that the incident took place outside the ashram. The case is under investigation, and Isha Foundation has pledged its full cooperation with the authorities.

No Crematorium in Operation

The Foundation also addressed rumors about the existence of a crematorium within the ashram, stating categorically that no crematorium is operational inside the premises.

Isha Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to being a law-abiding organization that adheres to all legal compliance requirements. It expressed gratitude to its meditators and seekers for their cooperation during the police inquiries, despite the disruptions to their spiritual practices.
