In a shocking case from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, female students from a government college have reported receiving obscene and nude videos via WhatsApp, followed by threats of blackmail. The girls have been threatened that their explicit videos would be sent to their parents or made public unless they pay a ransom. The victims have filed complaints with the college principal and the police. The alleged perpetrator, posing as a police officer, is demanding money in exchange for not sharing the videos.

Blackmail and Threats to Families

According to the students, all in their first year at Mann Kunwar Bai Government College, the extortion started about four days ago when they began receiving explicit videos on WhatsApp. When one of the girls contacted the sender to protest, he claimed to be Sub-Inspector Vikram Goswami from Gorakhpur Police Station. The accused threatened to send the obscene videos and photos to their parents and post them online if they did not pay him. Several girls, fearing humiliation, have already transferred money to the perpetrator's account, with some paying up to ₹50,000. However, the blackmailer continued demanding more money.

Police and College Authorities Investigating

Upon receiving the complaints, local police swiftly registered the case and launched an investigation. The incident has caused a stir in both the college and law enforcement circles. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has also raised concerns, urging authorities to act quickly and apprehend the culprit. The cyber police department is tracing the number used for the extortion, while local authorities, including the district collector and SP, have joined the investigation.

Over 70 Students Reported Affected

Preliminary investigations reveal that more than 70 students have been affected by the blackmail. Many girls are now questioning how their phone numbers ended up in the hands of the perpetrator, as student records are usually securely stored. The college management has raised concerns about whether internal staff might have leaked the contact information.

Cyber Awareness Campaign Launched

As the investigation continues, the Jabalpur police have also started a cyber awareness campaign at the college to educate students on how to protect themselves from online crimes. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to trace the accused and bring them to justice.

This incident underscores the increasing threat of cybercrime and the importance of safeguarding personal information, especially among young and vulnerable individuals. The authorities have urged students and their families to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
