Jagannath Temple and Konark Sun Temple Shut Down as Precaution!

As Cyclone Dana prepares to unleash its fury on the Odisha coast, authorities have taken no chances! Reports confirm that both the iconic Jagannath Temple in Puri and the stunning Konark Sun Temple have been closed to the public, following directives from the Archaeological Survey of India. With the cyclone threatening to wreak havoc, safety measures are in full swing to prevent any untoward incidents.

Brace for Impact: Cyclone Expected to Strike

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone is anticipated to make landfall between the Bhitarkanika National Park and the Dhamra Port late on the night of October 24 and into the early hours of October 25. The weather agency warns that winds could reach speeds of 100-110 km/h during the cyclone’s peak, prompting the closure of various monuments, temples, and museums across the affected areas.

Schools and Attractions Close Their Doors

In addition to temple closures, schools in several districts—including Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Angul, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Cuttack—have been declared closed in anticipation of heavy rains.

The Odisha government has also announced the closure of the Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj and the Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara as a precautionary measure against the cyclone.

Train Services Disrupted

Adding to the chaos, over 150 trains traversing the South Eastern Railway zone have been canceled, including the Howrah-Secunderabad Falaknuma Express, Kamakhya-Yeshvantpur AC Express, and others. Travelers are advised to check their train schedules and make alternative arrangements if necessary.

Emergency Preparedness in Full Swing

To ensure public safety, a total of 20 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed in Odisha, with an additional 14 teams on standby in West Bengal. The Army, Navy, and Coast Guard have also mobilized extra rescue and relief teams, preparing ships and aircraft for potential emergency situations.

Odisha’s Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Suresh Pujari, has stated that over 5,000 relief centers have been established, equipped with modern amenities to provide food, water, milk for children, and medical supplies for the injured.

Stay Safe and Informed

As Cyclone Dana looms, the government and local authorities are urging residents to stay vigilant and heed safety advisories. With the region bracing for potential disruptions, communities are coming together to ensure everyone's safety during this challenging time.
