As the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024 approach, political parties are gearing up for the battle. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its preparations by announcing the names of additional candidates. On Monday, the BJP's Central Election Committee released a new list of six candidates for the upcoming elections.

Key Highlights of the BJP Candidate List:

 

  • Ravinder Raina: The state BJP president, Ravinder Raina, has been given the ticket to contest from the Nowshera Assembly seat, a significant move as he is one of the prominent faces of the party in the region.

  • Vibodh Gupta: Another key candidate, Vibodh Gupta, will contest from the Rajouri seat, adding strength to the party’s campaign in Jammu and Kashmir.

Muslim Representation in BJP’s Candidate List:

 

Interestingly, the BJP has included four Muslim candidates in this list, reflecting the party's efforts to reach out to the Muslim electorate in the region:

  • Aijaz Hussain: Aijaz Hussain will contest from the Lal Chowk constituency.
  • Arif Raja: Arif Raja has been fielded from the Eidgah seat.
  • Dr. Ali Mohammad Mir: He will represent the party from the Khansahib constituency.
  • Zahid Hussain: Zahid Hussain will contest from the Charar-e-Sharif seat.

BJP’s Strategy and Progress:

With this announcement, the BJP has now revealed the names of 51 candidates for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections. The party released its first list on August 26, which included 15 candidates. Subsequently, the second list added another candidate, and the third list expanded the roster with 29 more candidates. The fourth and latest list, released on September 2, names six additional candidates.

The BJP’s strategic selection of candidates, including the representation of Muslim leaders, indicates the party’s comprehensive approach to securing a broad base of support in the region. The upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir are set to be highly competitive, with various political parties vying for influence in the state's future governance.
