Jammu Kashmir Terrorist Encounter: Security Forces Killed Top LeT Commander Junaid Ramzan Bhatt in Srinagar
Jammu Kashmir Terrorist Encounter: In a big victory for security forces, Junaid Ramzan Bhatt, a top terrorist connected to the attack on a tunnel construction camp at Gagangeer that killed seven people, including six workers and a doctor, was killed in an encounter with police in Srinagar on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Bhatt, a local commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in South Kashmir's Kulgam area, had been absconding since the attack on October 20, 2024. The terrorist was shot during a night-long operation in the upper reaches of Harwan, on the outskirts of Srinagar.
The incident occurred close to Dachigam National Park, a crucial location on the terrorist infiltration route between Gandarbal, Srinagar, and Tral. Bhatt's killing is a major success for security forces in their efforts to dismantle terror networks in the region. A US-made M4 carbine was recovered from the spot, which shows how serious the operation was.
The attack, claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of LeT, targeted the workers' camp of a private company engaged in tunnel construction. Two terrorists were captured on camera; Bhatt was identified due to this. Even after his killing, another terrorist had escaped the spot, and the security forces are still searching him in the surrounding areas.
This is the second confrontation in the region, after a short skirmish in the Jabbarwan Hills in November 2024. Since then, the security forces have upped their ante throughout the region, especially Tral, Gandarbal, and other strategic mountainous places.
