Who is Jasbir Singh? Punjab Police Hero ASI Who Foiled Attack on Sukhbir Badal

On Wednesday morning, there was an attempt on the life of former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. But the attack was foiled by Punjab Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Jasbir Singh, who displayed quick thinking and bravery. Not only did he foil the attack but also caught the attacker, Narayan Singh Chaura, on the spot.

Sukhbir Singh Badal, who was on duty as a sevadal at the temple entrance, was attacked. The Khalistani terrorist attacker pulled out a pistol and fired at Badal. But Jasbir Singh, who was stationed nearby, immediately intervened, catching the hand of the attacker, so the shot did not cause any harm. The bullet was fired into the air. Thereafter, ASI Rishpal Singh and Paraminder Singh rushed at the spot and strengthened their grip on the terrorist.

Jasbir Singh's quick actions have drawn praise from all corners. The incident was captured on video and went viral on social media. Singh's duty had placed him alongside Sukhbir Singh Badal, and he had been alerted to stay on high alert after Badal had been sentenced earlier in the day. Singh, who was in plain clothes, acted without fear for his own safety, ensuring the assailant was neutralized before he could cause further harm.

The police later disclosed that Chaura had been involved in several cases and was a wanted criminal, with charges against him under the Arms Act and other serious offenses. Jasbir Singh, who had been involved in major police operations, had been alert throughout, though a full security check is not usually conducted on devotees entering the Darbar Sahib.

The Punjab Police Commissioner, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, said that the heroic efforts of Jasbir Singh and his colleagues had avoided a major incident. The Sikh community condemned the attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal, and Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh said that the attack was not just on Badal but on every person serving at the Golden Temple. The police have promised to investigate the attack in-depth.
