Jharkhand Election Results 2024: JMM Leads in Jharkhand, BJP Trails

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led Mahagathbandhan has so far won 50 seats in the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections. According to reports at 1:45 PM on Sunday, the JMM is leading in 30 seats, the Congress in 13, the RJD in 5, and the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation in 2 seats. The BJP-led NDA trails with leads in 26 constituencies.

Record Turnout and Voting Phases

The polls for Jharkhand's 81 assembly constituencies were held in two phases on November 13 and 20, with the first phase comprising 43 constituencies and the second phase comprising 38 ones. For the first time since its formation in November 2000, the state saw its highest voter turnout of 67.74%, which signified public interest at a very high level.

A Tight Contest Between NDA and INDIA Bloc

The NDA and the INDIA bloc fought this year's elections with all guns blazing, powerful leaders from both camps promoting them with rallies. Issues like tribal rights, immigration, and corruption dominated campaigns led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president JP Nadda, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

 BJP Strategy and Challenges

The BJP contested 68 seats while the rest were contested by its allies All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), Janata Dal (United), and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). However, the BJP was unable to repeat the scenario of 2014, when the party had won in a majority on its own. In 2019, the JMM-Congress-RJD coalition had earned an absolute majority with 47 seats, leaving the BJP with a mere 25 seats.

The counting, which will continue through the day, will unveil if the JMM-led alliance seals victory or the BJP manages a comeback. The elections become a turning point on pressing issues and leadership in Jharkhand.
