Jharkhand Elections: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister, Champai Soren, launched a sharp attack against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's OBC reservation statement, claiming that Congressmen exploited Jharkhand more than any other party. He said that it was Congress which had oppressed the tribals, crushing hundreds of them during the Jharkhand movement. He underlined that Congress could never represent the tribals or indigenous people of Jharkhand.
Another retort came from Soren, who posted a tweet. According to him, even though different people tend to hold diverse perspectives, it was BJP which conferred the status of statehood to Jharkhand and included tribal languages into the 8th Schedule initiated during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Soren said the BJP had treated tribals with due respect, of which Jharkhand Mukti Morcha had denied for more than 4.5 years with specific consideration to enable tribal languages.
Addressing the looming elections, Soren went on to say that the growing concern of illegal Bangladeshi immigration is now devouring tribal lands. Adding to it, he expressed his concern over how the economic condition of the tribal society has been deteriorating and how many villages turned into oblivion. He told the people to act instead of becoming blind to the situation and assured them that he would be addressing the concerns of the Santhal region.
