During an encounter on Monday, an army officer and four other soldiers were killed. The encounter took place between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

As per the sources, a heavy gunfight was going on in the Surankote area.

The anti-insurgency operation was launched in a village close to Dera Ki Gali in the wee hours.

The terrorists fired on the search parties from their hideout. This, in turn, resulted in a fierce gunfight.

Also, there were reports about the presence of a group of heavily armed terrorists in the Chamrer forest.

This comes amid increasing terrorist activity in the Kashmir valley in recent weeks.

There has been a revival of ceasefire violations along the Line of Control with Pakistan.

Army spokesman Lt Colonel Devender Anand said that the encounter is still underway. Still, three to four militants are suspected to be trapped in the area, as per sources.
