Kanpur Pensioners Hold Candle March in Protest of Pahalgam Terror Attack

Pensioners in Kanpur organized a candlelight march to protest the Pahalgam terror attack. Led by B.L. Gulabiya, the march honored the victims and called for a strong response from the government.

Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh – In a token of respect to the martyred in the Pahalgam terror attack, the Retired Employees and Pensioners Association, Kanpur Nagar, organized a candle march at Moti Jheel on Thursday night. The candle march was a forceful protest against terrorism and a show of unity with the country.

The protest was led by Association President B.L. Gulabiya, with members marching from Moti Jheel to Kargil Park, shouting slogans such as "Down with Terrorism" and "Pakistan Murdabad". The protesters, holding candles and placards, voiced their deep distress over the cowardly attack on innocent tourists in Jammu and Kashmir.

Demand for Strong Retaliation from the Government

Anand Awasthi, General Secretary of the Pension Forum, spoke against the attack calling it cowardly and called for a strong and swift action by the Prime Minister.

"The whole country is with the Prime Minister. The time has come to give a proper response," Awasthi said.

Activist R.P. Srivastava also addressed the crowd during the march, claiming the attack was targeting tourists on grounds of identity and religion, and was probably ordered at Pakistan's behest. 

Tributes Paid to Killed Tourists

The participants remained silent for a moment and held candles to mourn the innocent dead in the Pahalgam attack. The mood was kept somber and patriotic, and demands for justice rang out from the park.

Among the high-profile guests were former Minister of State and UP Women's Commission member Smt. Anita Gupta, and other dignitaries such as Ashok Kumar Mishra, Ravindra Kumar Madhur, Advocate Chandhas Singh Chauhan, Sunil Suman (President, Jal Sansthan), Aditya Mishra, Arunesh Tiwari, Beni Singh Sachan, and Sarvesh Kumar alias Ninni Pandey.
