Kanpur: Retired Employees Slam Ignored Pension Portal Promises on Its Third Anniversary

On the occasion of Labour Day, the Retired Employees and Pensioners Association of Kanpur Nagar held a meeting at the office of the Joint Sanitation Workers’ Union in the Jal Kal Department. The meeting was chaired by Association President B.L. Gulabiya and focused on the continued negligence of Uttar Pradesh government’s pension portal promises.

CM Yogi’s 2022 Pension Portal Promise Still Unfulfilled

President B.L. Gulabiya informed participants that on May 1, 2022, the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Pension Portal with an assurance that retiring government officials would no longer have to go around from office to office. All the retirement amounts instead would be credited to their bank accounts on the same day of retirement. But according to Gulabiya, the Chief Minister's assurances have been unimplemented.

Retired Staff Still Waiting for Pension

Pension Forum General Secretary Anand Awasthi quoted a recent instance on February 28, 2025, when one female staff person retired from Bidhnu's Community Health Center under the CMO. Till now, she has not yet received her pension or any other amount. Awasthi held the absence of monitoring at state and district levels responsible for departmental officers' continued negligence.

Hallet Hospital Cases also Raise Concerns

Sunil Suman underlined the dire situation at the Hallet Hospital under the Kanpur Medical College, where large numbers of retired staff and families of deceased staff members haven't been paid pensions for years. He further contributed that in several instances, the pensions were issued only after a period of three years, and only after application of pressure by the Kanpur Divisional Commissioner—an action equating to institutional harassment.

Demand for Monitoring and Accountability

Rights activist Rajendra Prasad Srivastava called upon the Kanpur District Magistrate and state government to install effective monitoring systems to ensure timely implementation of orders issued by authorities. The association demanded that the administration review compliance on a regular basis to prevent further delays and hardships.

Major participants were Anand Awasthi, B.L. Gulabiya, Sunil Suman, R.P. Srivastava (Advocate), Ashok Kumar Mishra, Ravindra Kumar Madhur, A.K. Nigam, Subhash Bhatia, Durga Prasad, Tara Chand, Satya Narayan, Beche Lal Kushwaha, Rajesh Khanna, Sardar Inderjeet Singh Gill, and Virendra Singh Verma.
