Pensioners to Stage Protest in Kanpur on April 22 Over Exclusion from 8th Pay Commission

Kanpur, April 14, 2025 — Marking the birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, hundreds of retired employees and pensioners under the banner of the Retired Employees and Pensioners Association, Kanpur Nagar, announced a large-scale protest at the District Magistrate’s office on April 22, 2025.
The protest has been organized in response to the central government’s exclusion of pensioners from the benefits of the 8th Pay Commission, which has sparked widespread anger among the senior citizen community. The protest will begin at 10:00 AM, and a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister will be submitted on-site.
Earlier today, pensioners paid floral tributes to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, in a ceremony held in Kanpur. During the event, Prabhat Mishra, President of the State Employees Joint Council, Kanpur Nagar, was honored by Sunil Suman, President of the United Sanitation Workers Union, Jal Kal Department, who presented him with a portrait of Dr. Ambedkar.
Speaking on the occasion, Anand Awasthi, General Secretary of the Pension Forum, emphasized that this protest is part of a nationwide movement. He called on pensioners to continue the struggle until their demands are fulfilled.
"We will fight till our last breath for justice and dignity for pensioners," said Awasthi.
Prabhat Mishra and Uday Raj Singh, council secretary, pledged full support to the pensioners’ movement, announcing that active government employees will also stand in solidarity.
The protest meeting saw attendance from several prominent names including Prabhat Mishra, Uday Raj Singh Yadav, B.L. Gulabiya, Ashok Kumar Mishra, Anand Awasthi, A.K. Nigam, Subhash Bhatia, Krishna Bahadur Singh, Sushil Sagar, Mrs. Snehlata Lal, R.P. Srivastava (Advocate), Chandrahass Singh Chauhan (Advocate), Chandrapal, Vishnu Pal, Manmohan Jha, Om Narayan, and Virendra Singh Verma, along with hundreds of other pensioners.
