Mass Protest by Retired Employees and Teachers Against Finance Amendment Act

Kanpur: Retired government employees and teachers staged a major protest in Kanpur on Tuesday under the joint leadership of the Pensioners' Association and Teachers' Federation, opposing the Finance Amendment Act 2025. The protest was led by B.L. Gulabiya, and a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister was handed over to DM Jitendra Pratap Singh.

Why the Protest?

Protesters allege that the Finance Amendment Act 2025 sends a clear message: no pension revision will be done for retirees until December 2025. They believe this directly undermines expectations tied to the 8th Pay Commission, which was expected to take effect from January 2026.

They warned that if the Act is not repealed immediately, a nationwide agitation will be launched.

What the Leaders Said:

  • Rakesh Babu Pandey, President of UP Teachers' Union, said, “This Act also negatively impacts teachers. All retired educators stand united in this fight.”

  • Anand Awasthi, General Secretary of Pension Forum, added that both central and state government retirees will join forces.

  • Leaders from KDA, Jal Kal, and Municipal Corporation Unions demanded the inclusion of local body pensioners in the Deendayal Upadhyay Healthcare Scheme.

Key Protest Participants:

B.L. Gulabiya, Rakesh Babu Pandey, Anand Awasthi, Beche Lal Kushwaha, Ashok Mishra, VN Pal, Mohd. Usman Ali Shah, Sunil Suman, Chandrahas Singh, Snehalata Lal, Shahjahan Naaz, and several other retired employees and advocates were present.
