Kanpur to Unnao via Metro: 7 New Routes Announced, 75 Km Expansion by 2035

In a revolutionary step to address urban traffic, Kanpur will soon be expanded with a huge metro network that will link the city to Unnao and various important areas. The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has planned a 74.92 km extension on seven new metro corridors, including a direct route from Kanpur to Unnao.

By 2035, citizens can look forward to hassle-free travel, as the metro will extend to distant areas of the city. The metro is already functional on the Orange Line between IIT Kanpur and Motijheel, with rapid work being done on the extended section to Central Station and Naubasta. Work on the Blue Line from CSA to Barra-8 is also progressing towards completion.

To further increase local travel, the UPMRC conducted a route survey under partnership with RITES for the under-projected 74.92-km extension. The construction groundwork will start once final approvals are finalized.

Major proposed corridors are:

  • IIT to Mandhana
  • CSA to Khyaura Katri
  • Naubasta to Ramaipur
  • Kendriya Vidyalaya Cantt to Unnao

These corridors will enhance access to key destinations like bus stations and airports, making travel easy for thousands of daily commuters. Once implemented, Kanpur's metro network will become a lifeline, providing a congestion-free, green, and fast mode of transportation for Kanpur and Unnao people.
