Kanwar Yatra 2024: Two Killed, Two Injured in Road Accident Involving Kanwariyas in Bijnor

In a tragic road accident early this morning in the Afzalgarh area of Bijnor, two Kanwariyas lost their lives, and two others were severely injured. The incident occurred when a motorcycle carrying pilgrims heading from Bareilly to Haridwar for the Kanwar Yatra collided with an unidentified vehicle.
The accident took place around 2:30 AM near the Asifabad Chaman area in the Afzalgarh police station jurisdiction. The motorcycle, part of a group of Kanwariyas, was struck by an unknown vehicle, causing it to crash onto a scooter. Both the scooter and motorcycle riders were part of the Kanwar Yatra group, leading to injuries for four individuals.
Upon receiving the information, the police rushed to the scene and transported the injured to a local Community Health Center (CHC). Unfortunately, doctors declared two Kanwariyas dead upon arrival. The deceased have been identified as Shivam, son of Narendra, and Akhilesh, son of Omprakash, both residents of Panwaria village, Shergarh, Bareilly district.

The Kanwariya group, consisting of about 30 pilgrims, was traveling to Haridwar for holy water. The group included a DCM truck leading the procession, with motorcycle riders following behind. As they approached the Asifabad Chaman area, the motorcycle veered off course and collided with an unidentified truck, also impacting the scooter.
The two injured Kanwariyas, Utkarsh Gangwar, son of Ahivaran Kumar, and Ram Bahadur, son of Sompal Singh, both from Panwaria village, Shergarh, Bareilly, are receiving medical treatment.
Afzalgarh Circle Officer Anjani Kumar Chaturvedi stated that while two Kanwariyas were confirmed dead, the remaining two are undergoing treatment. The police have taken the bodies into custody for post-mortem and are conducting further legal proceedings.
