Kashmir Families Hide in Bunkers After Night Shelling
By The Vocal News
People living near the India-Pakistan border in Kashmir are scared after loud gunfire and shelling happened during the night. The sounds were so loud that some families had to leave their homes and move to safer places.
What Happened?
In a place called Karnah, near the Line of Control (the border between India and Pakistan in Kashmir), a house was hit and damaged. One person told The Vocal News, “We had to leave. We went to Srinagar for safety and will come back only when it’s safe.”
Srinagar is the main city in Indian-administered Kashmir.
Families Hiding in Bunkers
A 21-year-old student said his family spent the night hiding underground in a cement bunker. There were no beds or fans. Many women and children from nearby families also hid there, while others stayed in the back rooms of their homes.
“We are scared but still here. This is our home,” the student told The Vocal News.
What About Other Areas?
Another person living near Kupwara, also close to the border, said that they heard more shelling early in the morning. “It wasn’t as loud as yesterday, but people are still worried,” they said. Many think Pakistan may attack again, so people are nervous about what might happen next.
Because of the danger, schools are closed and kids are staying home. People are talking to each other to find out what’s going on, as they don’t have clear information from the news or officials.
The Situation in Pakistan-Administered Kashmir
Even in areas controlled by Pakistan, people are also scared. Some of them had to run away from their homes and find places to hide.
Why Is This a Big Deal?
Kashmir is a place that both India and Pakistan say belongs to them. They’ve fought three wars over it and had many smaller fights. The recent shelling is scary because Kashmir was calm for a few years, but now it looks like things are getting dangerous again.
Final Thoughts
People living in Kashmir are used to these scary situations, but it never gets easy. The Vocal News spoke to residents who said they just want peace so they can live safely in their homes again.
