Knife Attack at RSS Event in Jaipur Injures 8, Suspects in Custody
Jaipur, India — Eight people were injured in a knife attack during an RSS-organized kheer distribution event in Jaipur on Thursday night, coinciding with the Sharad Purnima festival. The event, held annually, was disrupted when a group of individuals attacked volunteers with knives and sticks. The incident took place in the Karni Vihar area, where the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) members were distributing kheer, a traditional Indian dessert, to attendees.
Details of the Attack
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants, armed with knives and sticks, assaulted the gathering during the religious ceremony, leaving seven to eight volunteers injured. All the injured have been admitted to Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital for treatment. The victims are reported to be in stable condition.
Cabinet Minister Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and local MLA Gopal Sharma visited the hospital to check on the injured. "I have met the injured at the hospital. The rule of law will be upheld in Rajasthan, and strict action will be taken against the attackers," said Rathore, assuring swift justice.
Suspects Detained
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Amit Kumar confirmed that the incident occurred during the RSS’s Sharad Purnima program in Karni Vihar. He stated, “Seven to eight people were injured and have been taken to SMS Hospital for treatment. We have detained some suspects for questioning.”
The attackers, who reportedly shouted insults before attacking, were apprehended by those present at the event. Rathore recounted, "During the kheer distribution, a few individuals kicked the large pot of kheer and began hurling abuses. When volunteers tried to intervene, they were attacked with knives." The suspects are currently in police custody, and authorities are conducting an investigation.
Swift Response from Officials
Former Rajasthan BJP chief Arun Chaturvedi described the incident as an unprovoked attack. "The RSS event in Karni Vihar was meant for kheer distribution in celebration of Sharad Purnima. Suddenly, a group of armed individuals attacked the volunteers, injuring several," he said.
Police have increased their presence in the Karni Vihar area as investigations continue. Authorities are working to uncover the motives behind the attack. For now, the situation is under control, with security forces ensuring the safety of the residents and participants.
Community Reaction
The attack has sent shockwaves through the local community. Many have expressed concerns over the increasing incidents of violence during peaceful gatherings. "This type of attack, especially during a religious event, is unacceptable," Rathore commented after visiting the injured at the hospital.
