Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: CBI Claims Mobile Phones Hold Key Evidence Against Sandeep Ghosh and Abhijit Mandal

Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made significant allegations in the ongoing investigation into the rape and murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata, claiming that crucial evidence is hidden within the mobile phones of Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, and Abhijit Mandal, former officer in charge of the Talla police station.

Ghosh was arrested on September 2 in connection with financial irregularities at the hospital, and the agency later added charges of evidence tampering against him. On September 14, the CBI apprehended Ghosh regarding his alleged involvement in the case, asserting that he intentionally absented himself from the crime scene while possibly receiving orders from someone else.

Evidence of Communication with Police

According to reports from The Times of India, CBI officials indicated that Ghosh had communicated multiple times with Mandal before arriving at the hospital following the police team's arrival at the crime scene. The agency asserted that the mobile phones of both Ghosh and Mandal contain vital information that could reveal further details about the case.

Additionally, Ghosh was found to have contacted several hospital officials, raising suspicions among investigators that he was acting under instructions from an external source. The CBI has previously alleged that the crime scene was tampered with, and Ghosh has been questioned several times regarding his actions after learning about the incident.

Details of the Investigation

The CBI is focused on establishing the sequence of events that occurred after the crime was reported. Ghosh claims to have contacted various officials and organized a three-member board of doctors, which he stated was reported to the health department. He noted that a meeting of this board was convened at 5 PM the day of the incident.

Allegations Against Ghosh and Mandal

The CBI has charged Ghosh, who was already in custody for financial irregularities, with evidence tampering and conspiracy related to the rape and murder of a trainee doctor on August 9. The arrests followed demands for a thorough investigation into the roles of junior doctors and the victim's parents in the case.

Both Ghosh and Mandal have been remanded to CBI custody for three days as the investigation continues. The agency has raised questions about the police's handling of the case and is seeking to clarify the circumstances surrounding the crime.

The unfolding details of this case have captured public attention and raised concerns about accountability within the healthcare and law enforcement systems in Kolkata.
