In the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni has been arrested.
DIG Upendra Agarwal confirmed his arrest as he was not cooperating during the interrogation.
Mishra will now be produced before the court. DIG Agarwal is heading the monitoring committee investigating the FIR lodged against Ashish Mishra and others in the Kheri case.
However, the minister’s son was supposed to appear before the police on October 8.
The UP Police had then issued a fresh notice asking him to appear before it by 11 am on October 9.
As per sources, the minister’s son was not able to explain points about his whereabouts when asked.
The arrest comes a day after the Supreme Court reminded the UP government that the law must take its course.
The Union Minister’s son admitted that the SUV that ran over farmers belongs to him, but he stresses that he was not in it.
On the other hand, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasised that his government will not arrest anyone on the basis of allegations. But the culprits will be punished.
