Land Sinks and Water 'Erupts' in Jaisalmer, Truck Falls into Crater Causing Panic
In a rare and alarming incident, a powerful water eruption resembling a 'volcano' has erupted in the Mohangarh canal area of Jaisalmer. The event started on Saturday with a boring operation for a tube well that led to sudden land subsidence and engulfed a truck. Water, mud, and gas have since been gushing out from the ground, reaching up to 3-4 feet high, causing panic among locals.
The Incident
While drilling boreholes near the Three Jora Minor, the land surprisingly collapsed with a huge crater. The truck brought for the operation fell into the sinkhole, and the workers along with the villagers ran. Officials have cordoned off a half-kilometer radius to ensure public safety. Groundwater scientists are investigating the cause of the incident.
VHP Links It to Saraswati River
The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has argued that the water gush may be a revival of the ancient Saraswati River, which was thought to have passed through this area but disappeared eventually.

Authorities on High Alert
The officials have cautioned further sinking of land and explosion at the site. Even though gas is coming with the water, it is not explosive. The administration has also asked the people of the locality to be alert until investigations are conducted.
