Leader-Athlete Love Story Turns Sour; Pappu Yadav's Family Feud Linked to Lawrence Bishnoi

One more independent member of parliament in the lists is Purnia Independent MP Pappu Yadav from Bihar. Sources say that in wake of an alleged threat letter from underworld don Lawrence Bishnoi, arrested in several murder cases in 2012, Pappu Yadav has gone isolated for now. Neither his Congress MP wife, Ranjeeta Ranjan, came to his notice nor visited him in their Purnia residence to express sympathies with their children saying that they, too had no relations with him, she said.

Pappu Yadav Isolated Amid Threats

Ranjeeta and Pappu Yadav started their affair in the 1990s when Pappu, a new political leader in Bihar, first gazed at her photograph with the help of her brother whom he happened to meet while in jail. Eventually, Ranjeeta-the national and international tennis player-captured his heart. For over a year, Pappu followed her matches but found it tough to express his feelings.  He didn't let Ranjeeta's busy tennis schedule and reluctance to commit sway him; in fact, by supporting him with the vote of Congress leader SS Ahluwalia, Pappu won her over to the family side of things. The two wed in 1994-again with drama involved when Ranjeeta's flight got lost on its way to the wedding.

Though the initial years of the marriage were pretty smooth, they had two children, along with a public image, conflicts started coming out when Ranjeeta joined politics. For the last 30 years of the married life, there has been disagreement that stayed hidden even at the time she took the children away from the house two years back. However, the first public statement by Ranjeeta has been on the separation; she first broke the news that they have been living separately almost since the past two-and-half years. She said that she takes the threats seriously from Bishnoi and claimed she and her family have no connection with Pappu Yadav.
