Sambhal's Jama Masjid: In Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal, a legal claim has been filed which claims that the Shahi Jama Masjid was originally the Shri Harihar Temple. On Tuesday, Hindu advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain presented the case in court, which led to an order for an advocate commission to be implemented for the purpose of investigation. A detailed survey would be conducted with videography and photography for verification of the claims.

Historical Context and Claims

Shahi Jama Masjid In the heart of Sambhal, there is the Shahi Jama Masjid, which was constructed in the 16th century. According to Hindu petitioners, the site once housed the Shri Harihar Temple. They further argued that Babur converted it into a mosque in 1529. Advocate Jain described the site as central to Hindu faith and significant for being the prophesied birthplace of Lord Vishnu's Kalki Avatar, the tenth and last incarnation.

ASI and Archaeological Evidence

The petitioners have submitted that the site is an ASI-protected site and cannot be encroached upon. Their submissions are that evident remains and traces support that a Hindu temple existed at the place.
The Civil Judge (Senior Division) at Sambhal has accepted the petition and ordered an advocate commission to visit the site and submit a comprehensive report. This investigation will clear up the historic and religious importance of the place.

Kalki Avatar Significance

Hindus believe that Kalki is one of the last ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu according to Hindu scriptures and will appear at the end of the Kali Yuga to restore dharma. Traditionally, his birthplace is believed to be in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, further reinforcing the cultural and religious significance of the disputed site. Similar disputes at Ayodhya, Mathura, and Varanasi, the case is likely to grab huge attention in the following weeks.
