Madhya Pradesh: Newlywed Woman Dies by Suicide Over Poha Dispute in Gwalior

GWALIOR, Madhya Pradesh — In a shocking incident from Gwalior, a newly married woman allegedly died by suicide following a dispute with her husband over a plate of poha, a popular Indian breakfast dish. The incident occurred in the Murar area of Gwalior, where 22-year-old Kavita Yadav took the drastic step after her husband, Balkishan Yadav, failed to prepare the poha she had requested.

The Incident

According to local sources, the couple had been married for about a year. On Saturday, Kavita expressed her desire to have poha for breakfast and asked her husband to prepare it. However, when Balkishan did not fulfill her request, an argument ensued between the two. In a fit of anger, Kavita reportedly locked herself in a room and later died by suicide.

The police were called to the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Kavita's body was sent for post-mortem, and an investigation was initiated to determine the circumstances leading to her death.

Police Investigation

The case has been registered, and police are investigating all possible angles, including dowry harassment, as Kavita was a newlywed. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Niranjan Sharma stated that the investigation is ongoing, and the police are questioning both Kavita's in-laws and her family members to uncover the truth.

“We are examining every aspect of the case, including the possibility of dowry-related harassment. The post-mortem report will provide more clarity, and if any evidence of foul play is found, strict action will be taken against those responsible,” ASP Sharma said.

Dowry Harassment Angle

Given that Kavita was married for only a year, the police are not ruling out the possibility of dowry harassment as a contributing factor. Statements are being recorded from both sides of the family to understand the dynamics of the marriage and the events leading up to the incident.

Next Steps

The police have stated that the investigation will intensify following the post-mortem report. If any evidence of harassment or foul play is uncovered, appropriate legal action will be taken. In the meantime, the police continue to explore all potential leads to ensure that justice is served.

This tragic incident has left the local community in shock, highlighting the severe consequences that can arise from seemingly minor domestic disputes.
