The much-awaited Mahakumbh has created controversy after the Naga Sadhus issued stern guidelines allowing entry only to those with a tilak on their forehead and a kalawa (sacred thread) on their wrist. This directive follows a similar stance by the Akhara Parishad banning non-Sanatanis from entering the sacred gathering.
Guidelines and Implementation
Naga Sadhu Shankar Bharti from Juna Akhara told that the move is targeted at protecting Hindu traditions and maintaining the sanctity of the event. For its enforcement, police personnel are to be stationed at all the entrances of Akhara and violation will attract strict legal action against the violators.
In support of the resolution, a female saint from Juna Akhara, Divya Giri, pledged to impose similar rules at women's Akharas. She agreed to post female saints at entry checkpoints to put tilak to visitors to follow the new patterns.
Conserving Tradition and Culture
According to them, the directive is also required to preserve the integrity of Sanatan culture and the spiritual importance of Prayagraj. They have threatened stern action against those who try to cause disruptions or break the guidelines. The saints also claimed they have all the authority to enforce this by themselves.
