Maharashtra Elections: With assembly elections just around the corner, Maharashtra, a political storm has broken out with just 14 hours to go before polling after a video surfaced of BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde allegedly distributing cash. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned the BJP asking, "Modi Ji, whose safe did this ₹5 crore come from?" Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav added that distributing cash is a "tried-and-tested BJP tactic before elections."

Tawde had alleged he was holding a meeting on election code compliance at Nalasopara. The Bahujan Vikas Aghadi BVA accused BJP leaders of bribing voters, and protests erupted outside the venue. Police and election commission officials conducted a search of the premises, and cash and diaries were confiscated. FIRs have been lodged, and further inquiries are being conducted.

BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi dismissed allegations of manipulation as baseless and claimed it was a "desperate attempt" by the opposition. Police in, meanwhile confirmed multiple FIRs and assured adherence to election law enforcement. The controversy adds fuel to what's shaping up to be a hotter than expected political battle in Maharashtra with polling day approaching.
