Maharashtra Mandir Nyas Parishad: The third ‘Maharashtra Mandir Nyas Parishad’ was held in Shirdi on December 25-26, 2024, where over 875 temple trustees gathered and voiced their demands for the implementation of an 'Anti-Land Grabbing' Law. The meeting focused on key issues concerning the autonomy of Hindu temples in Maharashtra, including the protection of temple lands and funds. The trustees unanimously called for Hindu temples to be freed from government control and for the funds offered by devotees to be used solely for temple development.

Protection of Temple Lands

One of the main topics discussed during the meeting was the need for an 'Anti-Land Grabbing' law to prevent illegal land acquisition or encroachments on temple properties. Temple trustees emphasized the importance of setting up dedicated security committees to safeguard the lands and assets of temples.

Temple Governance and Management

The conference also delved into broader governance issues, including how temples are managed and the growing concerns regarding Waqf Board encroachments on temple lands. The trustees expressed the need for a better system to ensure that temples are governed in a way that protects their religious, cultural, and financial interests.

Preserving Traditional Practices

A significant resolution passed during the meet emphasized the importance of maintaining cultural and religious practices. The trustees called for an ‘Aarti’ to be performed wherever there is a temple, highlighting the cultural value of such rituals in maintaining the sanctity of temples.

Calls for Autonomy and Preservation of Hindu Temples

The discussions reflected a growing movement in Maharashtra for greater autonomy of Hindu temples. The aim is to protect temple lands from encroachment, ensure proper management of temple funds, and preserve traditional religious practices. The implementation of these measures is expected to give Hindu temples the independence they need to serve their communities without outside interference.

A Step Towards Temple Autonomy

The outcomes of the Maharashtra Mandir Nyas Parishad mark a significant step towards empowering Hindu temples in the state. By addressing issues like land protection, temple governance, and the preservation of cultural practices, the meeting underlined the collective desire to ensure that Hindu temples in Maharashtra operate freely and effectively.
