A Mumbai-based who had been absconding for several days after being accused of urinating on a female co-passenger onboard an Air India flight has finally been arrested from Bengaluru.
According to reports, Shankar Mishra was hiding at a home-stay in Bengaluru, from where police nabbed him. A Delhi Police team had been searching for his location through Friday night.
In order to evade arrest, he had been changing locations. Since Mishra has his office in Mumbai as well as Bengaluru, the Delhi Police was conducting raids in both these cities.
A Look Out Circular (LOC) against Shankar Mishra was issues by the Delhi Police after he refused to join the investigation.
Mishra has been accused of urinating on a female co-passenger, a senior citizen, in an inebriated state on the business class of an Air India flight from New York to New Delhi in November last year.
A case was registered against him under Indian Penal Code sections 294 (obscene act in public place), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 510 (misconduct in public by a drunken person) as well as under Aircraft Rules.
Mishra, who worked for US financial services major Wells Fargo as the vice president of the India chapter, was fired by the company after the incident grabbed headlines.
Meanwhile, a show cause notice has been issues by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to Tata Group-owned Air India. The DGCA has called their handling of the incident was “unprofessional”.
