Manipur Incident: Two aged men have been left torched to death. And six persons among them three women and three children are missing. Police have conducted search operation and effort is being made to trace them out.

In Manipur's Jiribam district, tension has mounted as a series of tragic incidents continued unabated yesterday. Two elderly men were burnt to death and six people, three women and three children, have gone missing after a deadly clash between militants and security forces yesterday.

The missing persons are said to be from the same family, Jiri Apunba Lup, leading a Meitei organization in the area said. Police have launched search operations but nothing has come to light yet about the missing members of the family. The situation has heightened tensions across the Imphal Valley, with five districts experiencing a complete shutdown. The International Peace and Social Advancement has also appealed for the shutdown that started from Tuesday evening at 6 pm and will run for 24 hours. The unrest has sparked the complete shutdown of schools and colleges, markets, and transportation.

Police and security forces, Assam Rifles and CRPF personnel are combing the area to trace the missing people. The posts based on photos circulating on social media claiming that they are the kidnapped family members in the clutches of militants. To this, a senior police official said, "It is an unfortunate and tragic incident. We are putting in the best efforts to trace the missing women and children.".

On Monday, extremists carried out an attack at the Jiribam police station and a CRPF camp barely next to each other. The RPG, AK-series rifles, and SLR assault claimed 10 Kuki extremists dead and one CRPF jawan injured in the assault. Even in the bloodbath, IGP Muivah pointed out that security forces are doing their best not to have many casualties and not to restrain themselves even as they are on the receiving end of heavy arms.
