Manipur Violence: BJP MLA's House Set Ablaze, Curfew in 5 Districts, Internet Suspended in 7
Violence in Manipur worsened over the discovery of the bodies of three women and three children. The situation worsened further on Sunday when an irate mob attacked the ancestral house of BJP MLA Kongkham Robindro in Imphal, vandalizing the property. This comes after several houses of the Chief Minister's son-in-law, six BJP MLAs, and three ministers were set on fire on Saturday, along with several vehicles torched in clashes.
Manipur Violence: Curfew and Internet Ban in 7 Districts
Besides this, curfew has been imposed on five districts and internet services still remain suspended in seven districts to manage the deteriorating law and order situation. It is said that a huge mob stormed Robindro's house, demanding a meeting with him. MLA's father told the gathering that he wasn't at home but promised that his message would reach them.
The discovery of the bodies prompted further escalation of tensions, and protests became violent demonstrations. The crowd demanded answers about the BJP legislator's stance on the recent state events. Politics fallout from the violence has also begun. The National People's Party, a part of Manipur's BJP-led government, has declared its decision to withdraw its support. The BJP still enjoys majority in the 60-member state assembly, with 32 seats in its pocket, much above the mandatory number of 31.
