Manipur Violence News: Curfew, Internet Shutdown on Day 2 in Imphal Valley Amid Fresh Clashes

Curfew and internet shutdown continued for the second consecutive day in Manipur's Imphal valley on Monday amid fresh outbreaks of violence. Heated unrest has forced security forces to step up their patrols across the region.
For a start, the curfew introduced in the wake of increased violence in the region has partially restricted movement across different parts of the valley. The authorities have extended the measures to discourage the clashes but the suspension of mobile internet services is in place to discourage the spread of the rumors and to check further disorder.
The state's chief minister has appealed for calm as the situation remains tense.
Security personnel have increased their patrols in vulnerable sectors of Imphal on the second day of curfew. Police uptick has been seen around critical government offices, including State BJP headquarters and Raj Bhavan, besides several legislators' houses. Security forces are keeping an eye on roads of Manipur Secretariat as well, where protests and pandemonium are disturbing the otherwise serene state.
The latest violence incidents occurred amidst rising tension building up from earlier clashes between different groups which caused the death of many people and vast destruction of public and private properties. The most alarming among these was the razing of politician's residences, especially that of PWD Minister Govindas Konthoujam. Some kind of show of growing public frustration, the mobs set fire to his residence. The fire caused extensive damage, with the owner reportedly incurring loss to the tune of over Rs 3 crore.
Meanwhile, the wrath and frustration of local people over this deteriorating law and order situation have been vented. Suspension of the internet services and continued curfew, according to the government authorities concerned, are deemed essential to dampen further deterioration.
The situation in Manipur evokes concern from all sides, and it is hoped that rapid intervention, with decisive action, will bring peace to the state. With day 2 of curfew, the future of Manipur remains uncertain, but security forces are working extra hard to normalize the situation.
