Manipur Violence: NIA to Take Over Investigation of Key Cases Amid Escalating Tensions

Manipur Violence: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over three key cases related to the violence that continues to rage in the region, amid rising tension in Manipur. It relates to the three cases where the CRPF engaged in a brutal gun battle with the Kuki militants, which saw at least 10 militants killed in Jiribam. Another case of kidnapping of six people, whose bodies were later found, has been given to the NIA for investigation.
It issued a directive for the cases to be taken over by the NIA from Manipur Police. This is so following increasing incidents of clashes between the Kuki-Zo-Hmar and Meitei communities that have already resulted in fatalities and public disturbance in the state. The MHA stated that the transfer of such cases to the NIA would ensure a better investigation into growing violence and its implications on the security situation.
Besides this, the MHA has deployed an additional 2,000 CAPF personnel in Manipur. More forces would be deployed as needed to restore peace and order in the state. Home Minister Amit Shah has also convened high-level meetings with senior officials to review the entire security situation there and take measures to check the rising violence.
