Manjira River Exceeds Danger Levels: Meteorological Department Issues Warning for Bidar District

BIDAR — The Manjira River in Bidar district has exceeded danger levels, triggering a flood alert from the Meteorological Department. The river, which originates in Maharashtra and flows through Bidar before continuing into Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, is currently experiencing heavy flooding. Authorities have advised residents along the riverbanks to exercise caution.

The region has been experiencing intense rainfall, particularly along the Maharashtra-Karnataka border. Heavy rains in Maharashtra have led to increased water levels in the Manjira River, resulting in a flood situation in Bidar. The Meteorological Department has also issued warnings of substantial rainfall across several northern districts, including Bagalkot, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, and Vijayapura.

In Shahabad, the river Kagina has caused severe flooding, disrupting connectivity in the village of Mutuga. Floodwaters breached the bridge and barrage near the village, inundating agricultural fields and damaging crops such as cotton and pulses. The flood has cut off access between Mutuga and nearby villages, as the bridge and barrage remain submerged.

Local authorities have provided meals to displaced residents and reported that floodwaters have begun receding, allowing residents to return to their homes. Tahsildar Jagadish Chaur stated that relief measures are in place, and compensation will be provided for crop damage. Additionally, the bridge and barrage near Gola (K) village have been completely submerged, causing significant damage to the fields along the Honagunda River.

In Maski, persistent rainfall has turned roads muddy and difficult for pedestrians. The town's vegetable market, which typically operates on Sundays, has been particularly affected. The accumulation of rainwater on market roads has caused significant disruptions, making it challenging for vendors and customers alike. Farmers have faced difficulties in selling their produce due to the muddy conditions and reduced foot traffic.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely and have urged residents to remain vigilant as conditions evolve.
