At least seven people were killed after a massive fire broke out in 20-storey Kamala building near Mumbai’s Bhatia hospital early morning on Saturday, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) told news agency ANI.
According to initial reports, the fire broke out around 7:30 am on Saturday on the 18th floor of the building located at Nana Chowk in Mumbai’s Tardeo area.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade designated it as a Level-3 (major) fire. As per ANI, 13 fire engines were at the spot to douse the fire, which five ambulances were also rushed to the scene.
Seven of the injured persons were shifted to Nair Hospital, where doctors declared two dead on arival, while three succumbed to their injuries later.
Other injured persons were admitted to Bhatia Hospital. According to India Today, a doctor said three people were critical, while others are undergoing treatment in general ward, while one person died later.
One of the two persons admitted to Kasturba Hospital succumbed to injuries.
