Swindler and financial scammer Mehul Choksi has been apprehended in Dominica. He will be repatriated to India sooner. This comes after Antigua and Barbuda PM Gaston Browne said that Antigua will not accept him.

Mr Browne has also requested PM Skeritt in Dominica to not return Mehul Choksi, the accused, to Antigua. As in Antigua he has legal and constitutional protection, as a citizen.

Although Mehul Choksi’s family stayed there in the island but he had fled. Choksi was found in Dominica. And the Dominican government is cooperating with Indian and Antiguan governments.

Why Mehul Choksi is wanted in India?

He is wanted in connection with a Rs 13,500 crore loan fraud in Punjab National Bank. Lately, Choksi went missing from the island. His family members were also worried over his absence.

The police later on issues a missing person notice. But Choksi was apprehended in Dominica. Several arrangements were made to hand him back over to the Antigua police. But their PM says that he should be extradited to India.

Even before this multi-crore PNB scam came to light, he had fled the country. Mehul Choksi had even taken the citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda in 2017.
