Missed Your Train? Indian Railways’ New Rule Lets You Travel on the Same Ticket – Here’s How!
Indian Railways’ New Rule:Indian Railways, often referred to as the lifeline of the country, is a widely used mode of transportation for millions. Whether for short or long journeys or commuting to work, trains offer a cost-effective, flexible, and comfortable option with the added convenience of luggage accommodation and onboard food services.
However, there are instances when passengers might miss their train, leaving them uncertain about their next steps. Fortunately, Indian Railways has a new rule that can help in such situations.
What Does the New Rule State?
According to Indian Railways' new guidelines, if a passenger holds a general (unreserved) ticket and misses their train, they are allowed to board another train on the same day using the same ticket. This flexibility ensures that passengers can continue their journey without having to buy a new ticket.
However, if the passenger has a reserved seat and misses the train, they cannot use the same ticket for another train. Boarding another train with a reserved ticket can result in fines, as the ticket is valid only for the specific train and time mentioned.
Refund Process for Missed Train
If you miss your reserved train, Indian Railways provides an option to request a refund for the ticket. To initiate the process, you need to file a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR). According to Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) regulations, the TDR must be filed within four hours of the missed train’s departure. Failing to do so will make you ineligible for a refund.
To file a TDR, follow these steps:
- Log in to the IRCTC app.
- Click on the "Train" option, then select "File TDR."
- Select the relevant ticket from your bookings.
- Choose the reason for filing the TDR, and submit your request.
- Once the TDR is filed, the refund will be processed, usually within 60 days.
Refund on Ticket Cancellation
If you choose to cancel your confirmed train ticket, Indian Railways also offers a refund, but certain rules apply. If the ticket is canceled between 48 and 12 hours before the scheduled departure, 25% of the fare will be deducted. If it is canceled between 4 and 12 hours before the departure, 50% of the fare will be deducted.
For Waitlist and RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) tickets, cancellations must be made at least 30 minutes before the train's departure to be eligible for a refund. Failure to cancel within this time frame will result in no refund being issued.
In conclusion, Indian Railways’ new rule offers flexibility and ease for passengers, allowing them to continue their travel plans even if they miss their train. With the ability to file TDRs and clear guidelines for refunds, travelers can navigate missed trains and cancellations with minimal hassle.
