Father Ends Life, Mother, Uncle, and Grandmother Arrested: What’s Next for Atul Subhash’s Son Vyom?

The tragic suicide of AI software engineer Atul Subhash from Samastipur, Bihar, left behind unanswered questions regarding the custody of his 4.5-year-old son, Vyom. Atul left behind a 24-page suicide note and a one-hour video accusing his wife Nikita, her mother Nisha, her brother Anurag, and her uncle Sushil of mental torture and extortion. Atul claimed they had filed nine false cases against him and demanded exorbitant amounts of money, which he couldn't afford.

Custody Fight for Vyom

Atul's parents have filed a custody appeal for Vyom, since the child is his last possession. However, legal bottlenecks persist since, under Indian law, courts usually give custody to mothers whose children are less than five years old unless they are shown to be unfit. It was Atul's final wish that his parents be given the responsibility of his child, but with Nikita and her mother and brother arrested, the court's verdict will have to wait.

The Story of Events That Killed Atul

Atul's letter and video narrated years of harassment:

Ex-filial financial extortion: Atul accused demands up to ₹3 crore and an ₹80,000 monthly maintenance fee.

Emotional harassment: He was not allowed to see or talk to his son for 3.5 years.

Allegations against judicial prejudice: Atul alleged a judge asked for a bribe of ₹5 lakh to settle the case.

Arrests and continuing investigations

On December 14, the police arrested Nikita from Gurugram and her mother and brother from Prayagraj. All three were produced in court and sent to judicial custody. The fourth accused, Sushil, is still absconding. Meanwhile, the whereabouts of Vyom are not known and neither is his well-being.

Future of Vyom

The court’s decision on Vyom’s custody will be critical, considering his mother’s arrest and the accusations against her family. Atul’s parents hope to raise Vyom as their son’s legacy, but the case reflects the broader societal and legal complexities in custody battles.
