Mumbai Metro 3: BKC to Aarey in Just 30 Minutes, First Phase Launches Soon with ₹50 Fare!
The new line, which underwent testing on September 24, promises to significantly reduce travel time for Mumbai residents, especially during peak hours.
Mumbai’s highly anticipated underground metro line, Mumbai Metro 3, is set to open its first phase, offering a faster commute between Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Aarey. The new line, which underwent testing on September 24, promises to significantly reduce travel time for Mumbai residents, especially during peak hours.
A 30-Minute Commute for Just ₹50
The new Metro 3 line will allow commuters to travel from BKC to Aarey in just 30 minutes, a welcome relief for those who currently battle traffic congestion on the Western Express Highway. During rush hours, traffic jams on this route often cause delays, making the metro an efficient alternative. The fare for this journey has been set at a reasonable ₹50, providing a budget-friendly solution for daily commuters.
The first phase of the Mumbai Metro 3, spanning 12.5 kilometers, is expected to launch in the first week of October, with ten stations along the route. The line will operate 96 trips daily, with trains running every six to seven minutes during peak hours.
Ticket Prices and Ridership Expectations
The ticket prices for Metro 3 will range from ₹10 to ₹50, depending on the distance traveled. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), responsible for the metro’s construction and maintenance, estimates that around 450,000 passengers will use the metro daily once the first phase is operational.
Official Inauguration and Safety Certifications
There is speculation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may attend the inaugural ceremony and flag off the new metro line, although MMRC officials have not confirmed this. Meanwhile, the construction of the 12.5 km stretch between BKC and Aarey has been completed, and the metro is now awaiting crucial safety certifications, expected to be granted soon.
The entire Metro 3 line spans 33.5 kilometers, and once fully operational, it will greatly improve Mumbai’s public transportation network. The MMRC hopes that the first phase will ease travel for residents while fulfilling the city’s long-held dream of an underground metro.
Operating Hours and Testing Phase Completion
The metro service will operate from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on weekdays and from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Sundays. MMRC's managing director, Ashwini Bhide, confirmed that testing has been successfully completed, marking a major milestone in the project’s progress.
With its launch around the corner, the Mumbai Metro 3 line is set to transform the city's commuting experience, offering a faster, more efficient alternative for thousands of daily travelers.
