NASA: Satellite Images Reveal Massive Stubble Burning in Punjab, Lesser Incidents in Haryana

NASA: Cases of stubble burning that are highly prevalent in Haryana and Punjab have been captured through satellite images released by NASA. These satellite images capture spots where stubble burning or some other fire incident has taken place. These visuals leave no doubt that while Punjab has a large number of stubble-burning cases, Haryana records relatively lesser incidents.

In addition to Punjab and Haryana, cases of stubble burning have been reported in parts of Rajasthan, but the incidents in Rajasthan are much lower than in Punjab. The other states like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have also witnessed such issues.

According to experts, the puffed up smoke from neighbouring states may have some impact on air pollution through stubble burning, but it has little direct impact on Delhi due to predominant wind directions. While Punjab alone has recorded several lakh acres of crop burning, the direction of wind keeps the city's air quality largely unaffected.
