Opposition Introduces No-Confidence Motion Against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar Over Partiality
The India Alliance has filed a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, citing partiality in the handling of House proceedings. The opposition has expressed discontent with the manner in which Dhankhar has been conducting himself, alleging that he has exhibited bias during sessions, which compromised the fairness of proceedings. It has filed the no-confidence motion under Article 67(B) of the Constitution.
A motion against the leadership of President Dhankhar has already been signed by close to 70 MPs belonging to Congress, Trinamool Congress, AAP, Samajwadi Party, and a host of smaller parties, with each one in their different strength showing opposition unity. This has marked the serious escalation of opposition dissent.
Earlier, in the monsoon session of Parliament, the opposition had undertaken a signature campaign against Dhankhar, but at the time had decided not to take immediate action. It is now that dissent among the members has boiled into an accusatory note in which opposition leaders charge Dhankhar with showing partisan bias. Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till December 11.
