Fear of 'Operation Lotus' in Maharashtra, BJP's Claim Sparks Turmoil in MVA

Political tensions are brewing in Maharashtra as BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule has alleged that several MPs from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are in touch with the BJP. This claim has furthered speculations over 'Operation Lotus,' a strategy alleged to poach opposition leaders.

Reacting to the charge, Congress leader Nana Patole said it was wrong and an attempt by BJP to purchase democracy through corrupt means. Patole referred to the BJP's performance in recent elections, claiming that it has been facing a desperate requirement for coalition partners at the Centre, leading to acts like 'Operation Lotus.'

He responded that this discontent among the MVA MPs is because they are being deprived of leadership's attention and being unsupported, thus leading them to the BJP-led alliance for better constituency development.

BJP Allegedly Contacting MVA MPs

As reported, around 5-6 MVA MPs are allegedly negotiating with BJP. Allegations say that it is being told that there will be ministerial position or similar responsibility in Centre to make the MPs quit their existing ones and join BJP's ticket in the ensuing election.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut accused the BJP of using money and pressure tactics in the past to lure leaders, referring to defections by Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. He described the situation as "Operation Fear" rather than "Operation Lotus," implying coercion behind such political maneuvers.
