The Indian government on the eve of 73rd Republic Day, announced the names for Padma awards.
The late Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and former Uttar Pradesh CM Kalyan Singh have been posthumously conferred with Padma Vibhushan. It is India’s second-highest highest civilian honour.
Besides, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, former West Bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and SII MD Cyrus Poonawalla have been honoured with Padma Bhushan.
Padma Awards are one of the highest civilian awards in the country. These are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
Moreover, the awards are given in various disciplines ranging from art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports to civil service among others.
While the Padma Vibhushan is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service. The Padma Bhushan award is given for distinguished service of high order.
Padma Awards Announced for 2022
Padma Shri is awarded for distinguished service in any field. These awards are announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day.
Also, the President of India confers these awards at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Padma Shri will go to Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, Olympians Pramod Bhagat, and Vandana Kataria, singer Sonu Nigam.
India will celebrate Republic Day on Wednesday with proper Covid guidelines and lesser public during the parade.
Addressing the nation on the eve of 73rd Republic Day, he further went on to say, “In this 75th year of Independence, let us re-discover the values that animated our glorious national movement,” stated President Kovind.
President Ram Nath Kovind today urged the countrymen to not lower the guard when it comes to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour.
“In the fight against the Covid pandemic, it has now become a sacred national duty of every citizen to follow the precautions suggested by our scientists and experts. We have to discharge this duty till the crisis is behind us,” President Kovind said.
“As the pandemic is still widespread, we must remain alert and not let our guard down. The precautions we have taken till now have to be continued. Wearing masks and maintaining social distancing have been essential parts of Covid appropriate behaviour,” Kovind said.
