AGARTALA — In a significant move towards lasting peace, the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) have officially signed a peace agreement with the Indian and Tripura governments, marking the end of a 30-year-long armed conflict. The historic accord was signed on Wednesday in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who hailed the agreement as a vital step toward peace and stability in the northeastern region.

The NLFT, upon signing the agreement, stated, "We have placed our trust in the government and decided to end the 30-year-long armed struggle. We have shared our terms, and we have faith in the Home Minister."

Chief Minister Manik Saha Expresses Gratitude

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed his gratitude to Home Minister Shah for playing a key role in facilitating the peace accord. He noted that the agreement marks the third major peace deal in Tripura over the past decade, adding, "Tripura’s future is bright, and we are thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his continued support."

Saha also highlighted that over the last ten years, more than a dozen peace agreements have been signed across the northeastern region, with three specifically related to Tripura.

Amit Shah's Remarks on the Accord

Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the significance of the agreement, stating that it would bring 328 members of the NLFT and ATTF into the mainstream. He also announced a ₹250 crore package aimed at the development of areas affected by the conflict.

"This is not just a piece of paper; it is a coming together of hearts," Shah said, expressing pride that the 35-year-old conflict has been resolved through peace and dialogue. He praised Prime Minister Modi's efforts to bridge the emotional and cultural gap between the people of the Northeast and the rest of India, adding, "PM Modi has brought the hearts of the Northeast closer to the nation."

Past Efforts Towards Peace in Tripura

Earlier this year, a trilateral agreement was signed between the Tripura government, the central government, and the TIPRA Motha party to address the concerns of the indigenous population. The agreement sought to resolve issues related to the history, land, political rights, economic development, identity, culture, and language of the indigenous people in a peaceful manner.

Shah reassured all stakeholders in Tripura, stating, "There will no longer be any need to struggle for your rights. The Government of India will go two steps further to ensure your rights are safeguarded."

Efforts to Realize PM Modi’s Vision for Northeast

The central government, led by Prime Minister Modi, has been actively working to fulfill the vision of a conflict-free, developed Northeast. Under this vision, the Ministry of Home Affairs has signed 12 significant peace agreements, including three in Tripura. These accords have enabled around 10,000 individuals to lay down their arms and integrate into the mainstream, according to official statements.

The signing of this latest peace accord is seen as a major step in restoring peace and prosperity to Tripura and the wider northeastern region. It underscores the government’s continued commitment to resolving long-standing conflicts through dialogue and cooperation.
