Pensioners’ Forum Meeting in Kanpur: Decision to Field Candidates in 2027 Elections
Kanpur: A joint meeting of the Pensioners’ Forum and the State Employees and Pensioners Association was held today at Chitragupt Dharamshala, Govind Nagar, under the chairmanship of Vice President Subhash Chandra Bhatia.
The meeting began with prayers for the long life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a resolution to conduct cleanliness drives and tree plantation programs. Members also urged people to update their names in the voter list in time.
Addressing the gathering, Forum General Secretary Anand Awasthi highlighted that while several issues of pensioners had been raised before the state and central governments, most remain unresolved. He pointed out the lack of direct representation in government and suggested that pensioners, with their significant numbers, should contest elections.

President B.L. Gulabiya supported the proposal and suggested that efforts be made in constituencies with large pensioner populations, particularly in Sisamau and Chakeri. Members emphasized strengthening voter registration and community outreach. Advocate R.P. Srivastava and Advocate Chandrahas Singh Chauhan also expressed confidence that with their numbers and dedicated workers, pensioners could secure electoral success.
After discussions, it was unanimously decided to field B.L. Gulabiya from the Sisamau assembly seat and Mumtaz Ahmad from the Cantonment seat.
The meeting was attended by several prominent members, including S.M. Tiwari, B.P. Srivastava, B.P. Vikram, Arunesh Kumar Tiwari, Dhanraj Singh, Ramesh Chandra, Chandra Shekhar, H.N.
