All children who have lost their both parents, or legal guardian due to COVID-19 will get support under the ‘PM-CARES for Children scheme,’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on May 29, 2021.

PM Modi also said that the children will get a monthly stipend once after completing 18 years of age and a fund of Rs 10 after completing 23 years of age. For it, the fund will be given from PM Cares.

“All children who have lost both parents or surviving parent or legal guardian/adoptive parents due to Covid-19 will be supported under ‘PM-CARES for Children’ scheme,” the PMO said in a statement.

This comes days after the Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Zubin Irani’s statement on a report, according to which around 577 children have lost both of their parents due to COVID-19.

“GOI [Government of India] is committed to support and protect every vulnerable child due to loss of both parents to Covid-19,” Irani had tweeted.
